The Fred Steiding Trophy Race is the first race of the season, held annually, Saturday morning of the Memorial Day weekend.

Fred Steiding served on the Race Committee in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s together with Jim Wallace, Bill Key, and later, Joe Becker.

The 'shotgun' pictured below was used to fire 'blanks' as the starting signal for many years.
It has been retired and is on display above the entry doorway to the DCLSA 'Fireplace' room.
